The Tarkwa District Magistrate Court Two has sentenced a porter, Eric Essuman, alias “Nzema,” to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing GH¢3,500 from a trader at the Tarkwa main lorry station.

Essuman was convicted on his own plea for causing unlawful damage and stealing.

Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah told the court, presided over by Isaac Osei Asare, that the complainant, Rose Kpabi, a trader, resides in Twifo‑Praso in the Central Region.

On January 13, 2026, at about 3:30 a.m., the complainant was sleeping in front of the Latex Foam shop near the Railway Station Mosque when she suddenly woke up and found Essuman standing beside her holding a blade.

He was using it to cut her dress valued at GH¢150.

When she attempted to grab him, he fled.

The complainant later realized that her GH¢3,500 had been stolen.

A witness who had seen the convict earlier informed the complainant that he was known in the area only by the nickname “Nzema.”

Later that same day, the complainant received information that Essuman was hiding in a nearby ghetto.

She proceeded there and narrated the incident to the owner of the place.

Essuman was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Railway Police Station at Tarkwa.
