Sampling beats from existing songs is nothing new in the music industry. While many artistes try their luck, turning a sampled beat into a successful hit isn’t always easy.

However, some have managed to do it, and done it well.

Here are five artistes who sampled beats from other hit songs and still managed to create chart-topping tracks of their own:

    1. “One Corner” by Patapaa

Patapaa’s nationwide hit One Corner, known for its wild dance moves and infectious energy, was sampled from DJ Chare and Scottish’s Tin Gbanni.

    2. “Princess” by Joey B

Joey B’s Princess borrowed its beat from the legendary Daddy Lumba’s classic track Mensei Da, giving the familiar rhythm a modern twist.

    3. “Yewo Krom” by Atom

The popular street anthem Yewo Krom, sampled its beat from Gasmilla’s award-winning hit Telemo.

    4. “Nofuo No” by Famous

This track sampled the beat from Gasmilla’s socially conscious track ‘Letter to the Government’, giving it a more playful and danceable spin.

    5. “Kilikili” by Larusso

Larusso’s Kilikili drew its beat from Shatta Wale’s Aye Half Cast, originally produced by PAQ — and turned it into a dancehall favorite.
