With varying perspectives on polygamy, Gospel singer Kofi Karikari has reiterated that polygamous relationships are not something he would encourage among men.
In an interview on Hitz FM on January 19, 2026, the Best Male Vocal Performance awardee at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards argued that in the Bible, God gave Adam just one wife, not multiple wives, saying that from the beginning, God set the rules.
“In the Bible, Jesus said that from the beginning it was not so. God made man in His image and after His own likeness. In the beginning, He gave Adam a wife; God didn’t create three women for Adam, He gave him just one. From the onset, God set the rules,” he said.
Kofi Karikari explained that the only reason men engage in polygamous relationships is lust, noting that the Bible clearly states one man is to have one woman.
“It’s just the lust of men that brings all of these things up. It wasn’t so from the beginning. People say that ‘We are men,’ we are men made in the image and likeness of God. Jesus is a husband with the church as His wife, not wives to Jesus, it’s a wife, and Jesus is coming for a bride, not brides. Polygamy is not something I would encourage, and the Bible shows it is one,” he added.
The Gospel singer, whose music blends traditional Gospel with Afrobeats and rap, was also asked if he would like to feature a rapper on a song.
He responded, saying the sincere truth is that if he hears God says he should do that collaboration, then he will.
