Security Analyst and Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani Jatikay has revealed that politicians know the truth about the ongoing Bawku disturbances but cannot act because they are scared they might lose the elections.

According to him, if the politicians want to solve the ongoing clash at Bawku, they should be ready to bite the bullet and also be willing to lose votes by standing by the truth.

“Which politician is willing to lose votes? Before a politician does anything, the first consideration is political expedience, asking questions like ‘what is going to happen to my vote”, he argued.

He stated that politicians are more cautious with their votes hence the reason most of them have refused to talk about the ongoing feud in Bawku, emphasizing that the reason behind politicians refusal to comment on the clash is because they are scared of losing votes.

“.……But they know the truth, they cannot act because they are scared.” Adib Saani however added that if the military is given full power in Bawku, within 48 hours, peace will be restored.

On Sunday, the armed men set up roadblocks in both Gbimsi and Walewale Town, stopping vehicles to identify potential targets.

Passengers caught in the blockade faced interrogation over their identities, and in the deadly incident, approximately eight people were killed, while two vehicles were set ablaze, sparking significant security concerns.

The attack is believed to be linked to the ongoing Bawku Conflict, which has flared up again after a period of relative peace.

Amidst the brawl, the Ministry of the Interior has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Bawku following renewed conflict in the town. This is contained in a press release dated October 28 by the Deputy Minister, Naana Ayiah.
