John Dumelo, the recently elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon district, has emphasised how astute voters have grown in their ability to choose leaders.

He made this remark in response to the tactics used by Lydia Seyram Alhassan, his opponent, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the most recent elections. Lydia was previously accused by John Dumelo of influencing the electorate with food, cash and even whispering in their ears as they waited in file to cast their ballots.

In an interesting discussion with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, John Dumelo credited his win to his diligence and the voters’ increased level of democratic maturity.

According to him, some people base their selections on policy and their present circumstances rather than being readily influenced by gifts. According to Dumelo, voters place a higher value on meaningful representation than on material possessions, which reflects their integrity and discernment.

According to the results, you can’t constantly deceive people. He remarked, “They could gather the items and still not vote for you if they don’t want to.”

The actor claimed that exchanging stuff with the voters was politically unethical, even though he could have done the same as Lydia Alhassan. He went on to say, “I was just cool and calm about it because you don’t fight crime with crime.”

According to Dumelo, he prefers to put his constituents’ wants and interests first in order to establish a solid rapport and successfully handle their issues.

On the National Democratic Congress (NDC) platform, John Dumelo was elected to the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat. With 47,560 votes to Lydia Seyram Alhassan’s 39,214, he defeated the incumbent member of parliament.
