An18 years old second year student of Bimbilla Senior High School in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region only identified as Fatima, has been shot dead.

The incident is said to have happened during the fire festival celebration in Bimbilla on Saturday.

An eyewitness, Mr Habib Nassam, a native of Bimbilla, who narrated the incident in a telephone interview with The Ghanaian Times said Fatima was hit by a stray bullet from the firing of musketry during a procession from the palace of the Regent of  Bimbilla to the Wampu Dam.

According to him, although he was not far from where the girl was shot dead he couldn’t t tell who was handling the gun due to the fact that the incident occurred in the night.

“For me I believe that is not deliberate that the girl shot dead,” he stated.

He said it was an unfortunate that the unidentified man handling the locally manufactured single barrel gun pulled the trigger, hitting the girl in the head and killing her instantly.

Mr Nassau said per the information gathered the deceased parents asked her not to come out to the event grounds but sneaked out to join her friends where the unfortunate incident happened

Again, Mr Nassam stated that the one who fired the shot remained unknown, as the police was yet to commence investigations into the incident.

The girl has since been buried in accordance to the Islamic rules.

Meanwhile several attempts to reach the Bimbilla Municipal Police Command had proven futile
