A disgraced police officer has been jailed for four years after asking for a female suspect’s sex video.
Paul Street, 41, created a ‘toxic’ culture and engaged in ‘salacious gossip’ with former PC Josh Williams after he found intimate footage on the woman’s phone.
Street, a sergeant who appeared in crime shows on the BBC and Channel 4, had also encouraged his colleagues to ‘bully’ a teenage detainee in WhatsApp messages.
Following a trial at the Old Bailey in June, he was found guilty of two charges of misconduct in a public office. He also admitted two offences of unlawful disclosure of personal data. Williams, 38, pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and was on Wednesday sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Anti-corruption officers had uncovered Street’s two WhatsApp groups in 2021 while he worked for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
In April 2020, Street called on his team dealing with a 17-year-old detainee to ‘smash his head in’. In the autumn of that year, Williams examined the phone of a suspect and told Street she was ‘quite fit’. Street asked if there were ‘any nudes’, and Williams said there was a video of her committing a sex act.
Williams went on to send father-of-two Street a photo from the woman’s phone showing her in underwear. Street later asked if Williams still had the video so he could show it to ‘the lads from footy’.
But there was no evidence it was shared. Eleven other officers were investigated over their conduct arising from the culture Street had fostered, with one sacked for gross misconduct.
