The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has returned a bag containing GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner after it was found abandoned along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.

According to a police statement on February 17, 2026, officers stationed at a snap check point discovered the bag in the early hours of Friday, February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 AM.

The bag, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle, had the name ‘Ofori’ and a phone number written on it.

“The bag bore the name ‘Ofori’ and a phone number written on it,” the statement said.

The officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, retrieved the bag and forwarded it to the regional command for proper verification.

Police later contacted the number inscribed on the bag and reached its owner, 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori, from Ashtown in Kumasi.

He confirmed ownership and explained that the GH¢85,000 was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle.

The money was counted and verified in Ofori’s presence before the full amount was handed over to him.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the officers for their professionalism and diligence and also expressed appreciation to members of the public who assisted in drawing attention to the abandoned bag.
