The Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has rescued a victim of kidnapping at Wapuli in the Yendi Division following a targeted intelligence-led operation.

According to a Northern Regional situation report, the kidnapping case was reported at the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on December 2, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. The suspects allegedly demanded GH¢100,000 from the victim’s family as ransom for his release.

Acting swiftly on the report, the Northern Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, deployed a five-member intelligence team from the Tamale RPID to Wapuli in the Yendi District to conduct surveillance, rescue the victim, and apprehend the suspects.

On December 5, 2025, the intelligence team successfully rescued the victim. In the early hours of December 6, around 12:30 a.m., the team encountered the suspects, believed to be about four, in an exchange of gunfire. The suspects fled the scene, abandoning a motorbike with registration number M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone, which were retrieved as exhibits and sent to the Yendi Divisional Headquarters.

Later that same day, at about 8:00 a.m., the police tracked the suspects to Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbila-Yendi stretch, where three suspects, Haruna Seidu, 31, Amidu Bandi, 30, and Osman Bandi, 40, were arrested.

Two additional motorbikes, one registered M 25 GB 1026 and another unregistered, along with GH¢70,000, believed to be part of the ransom paid, were also recovered. One suspect remains at large and is believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the earlier exchange of fire. Police say he is armed and dangerous, and efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
