The Asamankese Police Command has launched a manhunt for two alleged land guards involved in the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old farmer, Azumah Zakari, in Nyanoa, a farming community in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region.

The tragic incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, following a dispute over land. The suspects, identified as Kobby Asaa and his accomplice Red, reportedly shot Zakari in the left leg during the altercation.

Due to the lack of immediate transportation to carry the injured farmer from the scene to the Asamankese Government Hospital, Zakari bled profusely and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Suspects Known for Land Guard Activities

Sources from the community describe Kobby Asaa and Red as notorious land guards, allegedly linked to several violent confrontations in the area. They are believed to have close ties with the Chief of Nyanoa, Osabarima Opoku Okyere II, further complicating the case.

Personnel from both the Nyanoa and Asamankese Divisional Police Commands visited the scene to commence investigations. Authorities are urging members of the public with any relevant information to assist in locating and apprehending the suspects.

“We appeal to the public to come forward with credible information that could lead to the arrest of Kobby Asaa and Red,” a police spokesperson said.

    Family Demands Justice

The grieving wife of the deceased, Adwoa Augustina, expressed heartbreak over the loss of her husband and has called for swift justice.

“My husband was a hardworking man who only wanted peace. These men took him away from us. We want justice for him,” she told journalists tearfully.

Zakari’s body has been deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation as investigations continue.

The incident has reignited concerns over land guard violence in Ghana, with residents calling on authorities to intensify efforts to combat the menace and ensure community safety.
