The Accra Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into the violent clashes that occurred on Saturday, August 30, 2025, during the annual Homowo Festival in Anyaa and Sowutuom.

The incident resulted in three fatalities and four injuries.

A statement issued and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, revealed that preliminary reports indicate a dispute between followers of two rival chiefs escalated into an exchange of gunfire while traditional food, known as Kpokpoi, was being sprinkled.

The situation escalated when some attendees attempted to leave the festival grounds, leading to further attacks at Olebu.

The deceased have been identified as Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah (alias Nii Kwashiebu), Theophilus Nii Amu Kwadjan, and Joseph Shaibu Dodoo.

Four others—Enoch Amevor, Samuel Adjei, Nathaniel Doku, and Frederick Lartey (alias Nii Obrafour)—sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Ridge Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

In response to the violence, the Accra Regional Police Command has deployed additional personnel to the affected areas to restore calm and maintain law and order.

The police are conducting intelligence-led operations to identify and arrest all individuals involved.

Meanwhile, the Command has issued a strong warning to traditional leaders, elders, and their supporters to adhere to security arrangements and avoid actions that could disrupt public peace.
