A joyous wedding celebration in Akyem Anamase, near Oda in the Eastern Region, turned tragic on Friday when the groom, Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, died amid the festivities.

According to Graphic online, Chief Inspector Beniba, the Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, fainted immediately after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, where he was scheduled to marry Florence Debrah.

According to eyewitnesses, the groom and his best men entered the site while waiting for his wife, who was preparing in a room at the event center. Moments afterward, he complained of dizziness and collapsed.

Efforts to revive him were useless, as he was transported to the Anamase Clinic, where medical personnel declared him dead upon arrival.

The unexpected death of Chief Inspector Beniba stunned and saddened hundreds of attendance, including police personnel and guests from all around the country. Many people traveled from Accra, Koforidua, Oda, and other areas to celebrate the couple’s wedding.

The joyous environment immediately turned sad, as people were stricken with grief. As heartbroken invitees left the venue, large quantities of food and drinks prepared for the event were left unused.

The groom’s family, who had traveled from the Northern Region for the wedding, planned to send his body to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Residents of Akyem Anamase have been devastated by the catastrophe, which has cast a pall over the hamlet during the holiday season.

Many people are mourning the tragic death of a respected officer and community member, whose wedding day ended in unfathomable grief.
