ACCRA & EASTERN REGIONS – A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of seven alleged members of a violent robbery syndicate terrorizing major highways across three regions. The group is suspected of being behind a series of attacks targeting motorists, trailer drivers, and residents in Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti regions.

Intelligence-Led Operation

The breakthrough follows an intensive investigation into a brazen armed robbery at a residence in Peduase, Aburi, on November 29, 2025. According to a police statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the suspects, armed with firearms, robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery, and cash.

The investigation gained momentum on January 6, 2026, when personnel from the Eastern and Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorates arrested suspect Kofi Ishmael (alias Ishmael Addo/Kofi Ketewa) at Avenor in Accra. During interrogation, Ishmael reportedly admitted involvement and identified Kwame Bediako (alias Star Boy/Nkokorpor) as the gang’s ringleader.

Arrest of Ringleader and Firearm Recovery

Acting swiftly on this information, police apprehended Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A search of his residence yielded a significant find: a pump-action gun concealed in a fence wall, along with four BB cartridges. Police reports indicate Bediako confessed to involvement in multiple robberies.

A Syndicate’s Wide Reach

Further investigations revealed the syndicate’s extensive operation area. They are allegedly linked to highway robberies along critical routes including:

Greater Accra: Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman

Eastern Region: Suhum, Nkawkaw

Ashanti Region: Juaso–Kumasi stretch

Disturbingly, police intelligence suggests the suspects were in the final stages of planning another robbery operation at the time of their arrests.

Suspects and Ongoing Investigations

The seven individuals now in police custody are:

Salia Mohammed (Kwaku Nuah), 27

Kofi Ishmael (Ishmael Addo/Kofi Ketewa), 32

Kwame Bediako (Star Boy/Nkokorpor) – alleged gang leader

Kwadwo Kalovi (Aticho)

Mumuni Abdul Razak (Mogambo), 39

Kwasi Akambuley (Kwasi Fresh), 27

Kwame Bonsu (Killer Ntua)

One suspect is currently receiving medical treatment while in custody.

Investigations have connected the group to several past violent crimes, including attacks on market women and a fatal robbery that claimed a driver’s life. Some suspects are also reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases still pending before the courts.

Exhibits and Public Appeal

Police have recovered a cache of items believed to be linked to the syndicate’s activities, including:

Firearms and ammunition

Machetes and knives

Mobile phones

Other items suspected to be proceeds of crime

The Accra Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and is pursuing all remaining accomplices still at large. Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report immediately to the nearest police station.

This operation marks a significant step in efforts to dismantle organized criminal networks and enhance security on the nation’s major highways.
