A violent shootout erupted at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region after armed robbers tried to raid the Microfin Rural Bank in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Police reports indicate that the heavily armed assailants attacked the bank around 1:50 a.m., subduing and restraining four security guards before forcing their way inside.

As the robbers were about to steal money, a police patrol team arrived at the scene. Sensing trouble, the criminals fired at the officers, triggering an intense gun battle.

Chief Inspector Isaac Entie, Deputy PRO of the Central Regional Police Command, informed Adom News that the robbers fled after realizing they were outmatched by the police.

Recovered items from the scene included two empty BB cartridges, iron rods, a saw blade, cutting plates, new padlocks, a pump-action gun, ammunition, and a set of door locks.

Chief Inspector Entie confirmed that while the bank’s doors and windows were severely damaged, the robbers failed to take any cash due to the police’s quick response. The four security guards were freed unharmed, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the suspects.

He reassured the public that the police would increase patrols to combat armed robbery in the area.
