The Eastern North Division of the Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals for allegedly operating an illegal drug factory suspected to be producing Indian hemp in the Eastern Region.

The arrested individuals, identified as 40-year-old Hawa Ibrahim and 30-year-old Latif Adams, are reported to have been operating a drug factory and using one of their residences as a storage facility for the suspected Indian hemp.

The operation was located at Ampehkrom, a town at Nkawkaw.

According to a UTV report dated May 14, 2025, DCOP Eric Kojo Asante, Commander of the Eastern North Division of the Ghana Police Service, stated that 1,650 slabs of the suspected illicit drugs were discovered and confiscated during the operation.

The police further stated that they acted on intelligence reports regarding the activities of the suspects, who had posed as traders dealing in food items.

However, following surveillance and a subsequent raid on their residence, authorities said they discovered several slabs of suspected illicit drugs packed into 24 sacks, neatly arranged in their storage facility.

The report added that upon opening the sacks, the police found the slabs to be tightly compressed, with tests confirming that the substances were indeed illicit drugs.

The suspects have since been placed in police custody as investigations continue into how they acquired the drugs and to identify any possible accomplices involved in the operation.
