The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into an invasion by armed men at the premises of Metro TV, in Accra, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

A statement released by the police shortly after the incident said that the commotion began when police officers accompanied a court bailiff, following a request from the court to the Metro TV premises.

According to the police statement, the bailiffs were accompanied by the judgment creditor, an organization identified as Vodacom Business Ghana Limited, to execute the court’s order against the media house.

“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred at the premises of Metro TV in Accra this morning, Wednesday, 27th November 2024.

“Preliminary Police investigations indicate that upon a request from the court, Police Officers accompanied a court bailiff in the company of the judgment creditor, Vodacom Business (Ghana) Limited, to execute a court order against Metro TV,” the statement said.

They are, therefore, urging the management of the media house to remain calm as investigations commence.

“We urge the public, particularly the management and staff of Metro TV, to remain calm and cooperate with the Police in the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.

The police statement follows reports of a group of armed men storming the premises of Accra-based Metro TV on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

According to broadcaster, Dr. Randy Abbey, the armed men, who were accompanied by some personnel of the Ghana Police Service, were trying to enter the studio while his Good Morning Ghana programme was ongoing.

He indicated that the incident forced the producers of the show to pause the broadcast so the people in the studio could take cover.

He said that a number of security personnel of Metro TV got injured as they were trying to stop the armed men from besieging the studio.

“You realised that we had an abrupt break. Maybe you can still hear some noise. It has to do with some armed policemen and another person who were trying to forcibly enter the studio here.

“Our private security is trying to prevent them; a couple of them are injured. They have actually been thrown here into the studio. That is why we took the break,” he said.

Dr. Abbey also wondered why the armed men were trying to break into the studio and why they were being accompanied by policemen.

The panellists on the programme: veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. and the New Patriotic Party representative, Dr. Richard Asante Yeboah, the Executive Secretary of the Public Servants Housing Loans Scheme, were left shocked by what had transpired.

As the men were narrating what had transpired, a lot of noise could be heard in the background, suggesting that the chaos was still ongoing.
