The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate a Chief in the Eastern Region.

The suspects, Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Command.

Their arrests came after police uncovered a plot to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.

In a statement signed by Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, DSP David Fianko-Okyere, the police indicated that intelligence received on October 11, 2025, led to the infiltration of the suspects’ network by a police intelligence team.

During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to kill the Chief and a woman reportedly being considered for installation as Queen Mother.

She is also said to have instructed Butuakwa Seth to assist in identifying the victims’ homes.

The statement added that Butuakwa Seth led the officers to the residences of both the Chief and the woman and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the act.

The suspects allegedly promised an additional GH₵50,000 after the crime was completed.

Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command assured the public of its firm commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, especially traditional leaders within the region.
