The Ghana Police Service has placed a GH¢20,000 bounty on a group of individuals captured in a viral video threatening to unleash violence during the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 24, 2024, the police said that it is still looking for the members of the group, who identified themselves as the NDC Youth of Obuasi in a viral video.

It indicated that the suspects, which included Yahuza, Bernard Ahedor, Simon, Basit, and Musa Yakubu, alias Agya Musah, have suddenly vanished.

It, therefore, urged the public to help with the needed information to aid in their arrest.

“The suspects, including Fuseini Yahuza, Bernard Ahedor, Simon, Basit, Musa Yakubu alias Agya Musah, and their accomplices, have been on the run since the incident, and the Police have been pursuing them.

“The Police are, therefore, appealing to the public to support the ongoing operation in search of the suspects by providing information that could lead to their arrest,” part of the statement reads.

It added, “A reward of twenty thousand Cedis (GH₵20,000.00) is being offered for any person who provides credible information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with credible information may contact the Police through a dedicated phone number 0547927272.”

    Background:

In the said video, the youth, wearing NDC T-shirts, brazenly declared their readiness to visit mayhem, especially on the Electoral Commission, should the Commissioners act in a manner they perceive as unfavourable to the NDC party.

“We, the NDC Youth Obuasi branch, have met here. We are well prepared for Election 2024. Whether the Electoral Commission declares victory for the NDC or not, we have won the elections. To the EC, be warned about the things you are doing. If you are prepared, we are more prepared. Your police and soldiers cannot help you.

“We are well prepared. If you make any mistakes this year, we’ll turn your flesh into kebab. On December 7, we’ll declare ourselves winners of the elections. There is no party in Ghana other than the NDC. If you [EC] joke, we’ll cut your head off. You joke with us at your own peril,” the group warned.

In response, the Police Service issued a brief statement: “We wish to state that the behaviour of the group constitutes the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).”

“A police operation is currently underway to apprehend the individuals involved and bring them to justice,” the statement added.
