Ghanaian singer, Efya, has addressed public perceptions about her personality, stating that many people misunderstand her confidence and boundaries as arrogance or unfriendliness.
Speaking in an interview with Anita Akuffo on TV3 on December 10, 2025, Efya explained that people sometimes approach celebrities with a sense of entitlement, which can lead to unfair judgments about their character.
According to her, the claim that she is not a nice person often stems from the energy people bring when interacting with her.
“People think I’m not a nice person, it’s because I’m much grounded, I guess,” she said.
Efya noted that some fans feel overly familiar with celebrities simply because they stream their music, but that does not give them the right to speak disrespectfully.
“It depends on the kind of energy you come to me with and most people feel very entitled when it comes to celebrity. Just because you feel you stream my music doesn’t mean you can tell me some things you know you’re not supposed to tell me,” She stressed.

The award-winning vocalist added that social media, particularly Twitter, gives people a false sense of freedom that encourages disrespectful behavior.
“Sometimes, people go off a little bit on Twitter and feeling themselves but it’s not fun and games till I show up in your house,” she stated.
Efya clarified that she is actually a very kind person, but she does not tolerate any disrespect.
“I’m a very nice person when you get to know me, I’m actually the sweetest person. I just don’t like disrespect so if you bring that on me, we will have a problem,” she shared.
She urged the public to maintain respect both online and offline, noting that while everyone is entitled to their mindset, she chooses to remain respectful unless someone crosses the line.
“A lot of people go hard on Twitter because they feel it’s a free space. Everybody is allowed to their mind-set but I choose to keep it respectful till you cross the line,” she added.
