A woman has died after she was ‘hit by a Tesco lorry’ in London this morning.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Mare Street in Hackney at around 11am after a lorry collided with a pedestrian.

The female pedestrian died at the scene.

Firefighters from Homerton and Bethnal Green were called to help police make the scene safe.

The crash caused huge congestion on the roads in the surrounding area, as drivers were advised to find alternative routes.

Three roads including Mare street were closed throughout the day following the crash.

Hackney Police were seen investigating the scene of the crash in the afternoon.

Nine London bus routes were also diverted for around nine hours.
