THE Paramount Chief of the Adele Traditional Area in the Volta Region, Nana Asete Owusu III, has called for unity and collaboration among traditional leaders to promote peace activities.

Tutukpene in the Nkwanta South Municipality over the weekend. He noted that chiefs had the responsibility to maintain peace to ensure the growth of the municipality and development.

Nana Asete Owusu III, who is also President of the Adele Traditional Council, said peace was a prerequisite for growth and stressed the need for residents to live in harmony to foster unity and accelerate development.

The paramount chief made the call during his outdooring ceremony. According to him, part of his development agenda is to unite the chiefs and people of Adele, Akyode and Challa to end the conflict in the area and revive economic activities.

Nana Asete Owusu pledged his commitment to promoting understanding and cooperation, noting that violent clashes among the three ethnic groups had stalled development and must be halted to pave the way for progress.

He noted that the era of war was over and that the common enemies that must be strategically fought were poverty, ignorance and disease. He stressed the need for the people of Challa, Adele and Akyode to engage in dialogue to resolve the misunderstandings that led to the conflict.

Nana Asete Owusu also called on chiefs in the municipality to resolve their differences, work together, and mobilise human and material resources for the development of the area.

“It is sad that the once vibrant Nkwanta South Municipality is no more. The busy streets of the area are now quiet; what were once homes are overgrown with weeds, and lives and property have been lost,” he lamented.

The chief indicated that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, adding that government development projects and programmes aimed at creating jobs for the youth and improving the wellbeing of the people required a peaceful environment.

He, therefore, urged residents and chiefs in the municipality to collaborate effectively, avoid divisive actions and embrace divergent views, noting that the different ethnic groups remained the strength of the municipality and must live as one people with a common destiny.

He also stressed the need for stakeholders to support peace initiatives to settle misunderstandings, saying: “We remain who we are; let us take advantage of our fertile farmlands and other resources to develop ourselves.”

The Kontihene of the Adele Traditional Area, Nana Anasah Gyenbura, who led the oath of allegiance to the new paramount chief, pledged his support and expressed optimism that Nana Asete Owusu III would succeed in his peace and development agenda.
