Portuguese coach Paulo Bento has emerged as a leading contender for the vacant Ghana Black Stars head coaching role, as the Ghana Football Association steps up its search for a new manager.
The position became available following the dismissal of Otto Addo after a run of disappointing results in recent international fixtures. With just over two months to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the GFA is under pressure to make a swift appointment.
Reports indicate that Bento is interested in the role, with the former South Korea and Portugal boss keen on a return to international management. The 54-year-old is highly regarded for guiding South Korea to the Round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, earning praise for his tactical discipline.
Bento has previously been linked with the Ghana job and is among hundreds of applicants being considered. Another prominent name, Hervé Renard, is also in contention, though uncertainty over his availability has reportedly shifted focus toward Bento.
Despite a recent spell with the UAE ending in March 2025, the Ghana role offers Bento a chance to quickly return to the global stage.
