By NICHOLAS COMINO, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA

    Published: 20:01 EST, 12 January 2026 | Updated: 20:57 EST, 12 January 2026

Pauline Hanson has called for tighter restrictions on immigration, claiming Australia has ‘brought in the wrong people’ over the last 30 years.

Speaking to Sky News on Monday, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson backed business figure Stephen Lowy’s call for a Royal Commission into immigration policy after the attack, saying urgent cultural change is needed.

‘It has to come down to the immigration, the people that we’ve brought into the country over the past especially three decades,’ Hanson said.

‘We’re bringing in the wrong people. They don’t want to assimilate, they have no time for Australia and hate our culture, our way of life, Western civilisation.’

Hanson claimed radical Islamic ideology has gained a foothold in Australia, warning hate speech laws alone will not curb extremism.

‘If they have dual citizenship, I’d strip them of their citizenship and deport them out of the country. I wouldn’t have them here. We don’t want this in the country,’ she said.

Her comments come as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recalls parliament to debate new laws banning extremist groups – including Hizb ut-Tahrir and neo-Nazi organisations – and criminalising incitement of racial hatred.

Hanson also raised concerns about radicalisation in Islamic schools and prayer rooms, calling for surveillance.

‘My concern is in Islamic schools,’ she said.

‘Parents are assimilating, but their children are being radicalised in some of these schools or online.

‘Unless we put the spotlight onto the Islamic schools, I’d have cameras or people there to watch what they’re teaching. We can’t allow this to be swept under the carpet.’

Hanson also blasted Australia’s immigration policies, arguing that Muslim-majority countries refuse to accept certain migrants.

‘Why are we taking them if they won’t accept them? We have to get hard on a lot of these countries,’ she said.

‘I’d allow citizenship for 10 years until you can get your citizenship. No one gets citizenship if you break the laws here or don’t blend in.’

The One Nation leader said Australians have ‘lost faith’ in major parties after the Bondi massacre.

‘People are looking for leadership. People are really hurting in this country,’ she said.

‘The Bondi massacre got people to wake up and take note. They’ve lost faith in the major political parties to really address this.’

Hanson declared the Liberals are ‘in dire straits’ and accused them of being too moderate.

‘You can’t define the difference between Labor and Liberal these days. People are looking for strong leadership and policies to get our country back on track,’ she said.

A number of supporters left positive messages backing Hanson.

‘Go Pauline. Continue spreading the truth,’ one person wrote.

‘A lot of people are getting nervous about the support for One Nation,’ a second added.

‘I say well done to you and your party for supporting the everyday Aussie and dealing with the real issues that matter to people.’

‘Thank God for Pauline’s plain honesty,’ another added.
