France international, Paul Pogba has made a long-awaited return to training with AS Monaco, signaling the start of a new chapter in a career that nearly ended abruptly.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined Monaco on a two-year contract earlier this year, hoping to revive his career after an 18-month doping suspension and a frustrating spell plagued by injuries.
His signing marked a return to French football for the first time since leaving Le Havre’s academy at age 16 to join Manchester United.
Pogba’s comeback journey stems from a turbulent period that began in 2023, when he tested positive for testosterone while playing for Juventus. Italy’s anti-doping court initially handed him a four-year ban, the maximum punishment under the rules.

However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later reduced the suspension to 18 months, ruling that Pogba’s positive test came from an erroneous use of a prescribed supplement, with no proven intent to cheat.
Following the reduction of his ban, Juventus terminated his contract by mutual agreement, paving the way for a fresh start.
Monaco moved quickly to secure his signature, officially announcing the transfer with a short video on social media showing the 2018 World Cup winner donning the club’s red-and-white shirt.
Now, after months of individual fitness work, Pogba has finally joined full training session with his new teammates.
In a video shared by Monaco, he was seen participating in ball drills and tactical exercises, smiling and appearing sharp.
Monaco currently sit second in Ligue 1, just one point behind PSG after ten matches. With Champions League qualification on the line, Pogba’s return could provide a timely boost for Sébastien Pocognoli’s side.
