On the backs of an embarrassing defeat in Super Bowl LIX, the mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is honoring her son.
Mahomes had a performance to forget in the championship game for the 2024 NFL season – wherein he threw three touchdowns, but also gave up two interceptions that doomed the team.
The first of those was a pick-six, the second set up an Eagles touchdown.
But in spite of the loss, the quarterback’s mother – Randi Mahomes – posted a touching tribute to her son while sharing snaps from the big game.
In addition to images of her family, Randi posed alongside soccer icon Lionel Messi, actor Kevin Costner, and comedians Pete Davidson and Heidi Gardner.
The caption read: ‘Not the ending we wanted, but so incredibly proud of Patrick and this team. No matter what, I’ll always be your biggest cheerleader son.’

Mahomes had a lackluster game and never led as the Chiefs struggled mightily on offense
She added, ‘Thank you, Chiefs Kingdom, for the love, support, and riding with us every step of the way.’
The loss in the Super Bowl comes at a time where the Mahomes family is going through personal hardship off the field.
Just hours before Mahomes took to the turf, the family provided an update on Mahomes’ grandfather (on his mother’s side) – who is in hospice care.
Randi revealed in January that her father’s health had taken a turn but she has still made it to New Orleans to support her son as he tries to secure the ‘three-peat’ with the Kansas City Chiefs.
She told People: ‘I know that it has meant a lot to him (that Patrick is in another Super Bowl). And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.
‘I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents.’
Mahomes’ mom added that she has kept the Chiefs quarterback updated on his grandfather’s help but has tried not to ‘bug him’ ahead of what could be a career-defining game.
She has repeatedly spoken on social media about her father, Randy, and his ill health but has never revealed precisely what the issue is. Randy turned 78 on January 6.
