Thomas Partey, former midfielder for Arsenal and the Ghana national team, has denied all allegations after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charged him with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women between 2021 and 2022.

The 31-year-old is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, following the conclusion of a three-year investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

The charges include two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts of rape involving a second, and one count of sexual assault involving a third. All charges stem from separate incidents reported by the three complainants.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, released a statement asserting his innocence.

“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” Wiltshire said.

She added that Partey would not be making any further public comments while the legal process is ongoing.

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor, confirmed the charges, stating they were based on a detailed body of evidence compiled by the police.

“Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges,” Narwal stated.

Both the CPS and the police stressed the importance of preserving the fairness of the legal process.

“Criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” Narwal warned.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police encouraged anyone with further information to come forward and reaffirmed the police’s ongoing support for the women involved.

Partey recently left Arsenal, having made 130 appearances over five seasons. He joined the club in 2020 after helping Atlético Madrid win the UEFA Europa League in 2018. Internationally, he has earned 53 caps and scored 15 goals for Ghana’s Black Stars.
