The third edition of the Democracy Cup was officially launched on March 31 at the Justice Annan Auditorium in Parliament House, drawing key stakeholders from Ghana’s football and political landscape.

The event, spearheaded by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, set the stage for a highly anticipated clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak. The two giants will face off on August 30 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, marking the first time the fixture will be hosted outside Accra.

Previous editions of the Democracy Cup were held in the capital, but organizers have opted to take the competition to Kumasi this year to broaden its national appeal.

The launch event attracted Members of Parliament, alongside vibrant displays from the Ghana Supporters Union and the Police Band, adding colour and excitement to the occasion.

As part of the ceremony, Speaker Bagbin presented a trophy previously won by Kotoko in the United States to a club representative, while Hearts of Oak were also recognized ahead of an upcoming international engagement in Sunderland.
