Ghana marked a historic debut at the Para Swimming World Series with Promise Aheto and Bryan Baffour delivering personal best performances at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Australia.

The duo, who departed Ghana on January 17 for the February 20–22 championship, became the first athletes to represent the country at a major international para swimming event. The trip was funded by the Ghana Olympic Committee and marks a milestone for the Para Swimming Association led by President Farida Iddriss.

Competing in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, both swimmers impressed across the three-day meet. Promise opened with 1:38.98 in the 100m Breaststroke before setting a personal best of 40.55 in the 50m Breaststroke to finish as second reserve for the finals. He capped his campaign with a new 50m Freestyle best of 31.72.

Bryan posted 2:11.90 in the 100m Breaststroke and improved his 50m Freestyle time from 47.12 to 43.22, sealing Ghana’s campaign on a high. The team is expected back in Ghana on Tuesday.
