The National Media Commission (NMC) specifically criticized Oyerepa TV for broadcasting sexual content, which has put them in serious difficulties. All media outlets are being strongly cautioned by the NMC to use caution when broadcasting, and any that break the rules will face consequences.

NMC Chairman Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo voiced his concerns regarding the programming selections of several stations during a meeting on October 31 that was centered on objectionable media content. He underlined that, considering the possible influence on viewers, broadcasters must exercise more discretion over what they air.

According to the NMC, it received around 9,000 complaints this year from more than 40 media outlets about topics like loan fraud, money laundering, and sexual content. Oyerepa TV was singled out for showing pornographic content. The management of the channel was disappointed that they were singled out, but the NMC stood by its position, claiming that the public may be seriously harmed by the degree of profanity that Oyerepa TV transmitted.

The NMC is thinking of sending the case to the National Communications Authority (NCA) in light of these conclusions in order to talk about the potential revocation of Oyerepa TV’s license. The NCA has been under fire from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for not having a clear plan for the digital migration process, raising doubts about its commitment to maintaining broadcasting standards in the face of a changing media environment.

In response, the NCA emphasized its commitment to upholding media integrity and reassured the public of its proactive role in overseeing and regulating the broadcast industry. The NCA seeks to guarantee that all media outlets follow the rules while offering the public high-quality information.
