The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that its investigations into contracts of Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) have saved the country GH¢1.25 billion in potential unjustified payments.

According to the OSP, its intervention on June 10, 2025, stopped a stream of illegal financial outflows that would have continued through October 2028, draining public funds under irregular agreements.

In its latest report, the OSP stressed that its mandate goes beyond pursuing prosecutions, highlighting the importance of preventive measures in protecting public resources.

“Accountability is not just about prosecution. It is also about prevention,” the statement read.

President Mahama orders termination of SML contract

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, on October 30, 2025, during a press conference, noted that the office plans to recover a total of GH¢125 million from Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), following findings that the company received overpayments from the state.

He said SML lacked the expertise and capacity to deliver the transaction audit and external price verification services it was contracted for and failed to submit invoices supported by verified reports.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, October 31, 2025, terminated all contracts between the Government of Ghana and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) following the conclusion of an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
