Popular Ghanaian entertainment personality, MC Portfolio, has hit back at Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, known as Zuba, for questioning the importance of a Creative Arts School.

In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Zuba suggested scrapping the school in favour of a “specialised training college that would be more impactful to Ghana.”

Portfolio, responding passionately to this on Angel FM, expressed disappointment over the mayor’s comments.

“He is one of the politicians whom I was growing to admire until this. The most hurtful part is where he said ‘let’s be serious,’ meaning to him, we are not a serious venture,” he said.

Highlighting the creative sector’s economic impact, Portfolio added that millions of people depend on the industry to survive.

“I am in an industry that is feeding millions of people. Even I, personally, as an MC, there is an economy around me. When I get paid, some people get paid as well,” he said.

He challenged critics to identify any other sector that has contributed more directly to the nation’s progress than the creative arts.

Citing IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Ghana and the aftermath, he called for respect for the industry.

“The creative industry has done more for this country than politics. These politicians should show respect for the creative industry. We can do the job they are doing.”
