The CEO of Data Bank, Kojo Addae Mensah, has stated that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo will require more experienced staff to beef up his technical team if retained.

He explained that the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) aim of hiring Otto Addo has not been attained yet, but there could be a positive impact in the future if given the necessary support.

The Data Bank CEO cited the example of Nottingham Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who is excelling with the team in the Premier League. In contrast, he could not achieve the same success while leading Tottenham Hotspur.

Addae Mensah stated that he fully supports the GFA’s intended move to restructure the Black Stars technical team.

“I agree with the FA looking at the team’s results, so definitely something has to be done about the technical team. Look at how Nuno Espirito Santo failed woefully at Spurs and what he is doing at Nottingham Forest. So, football is a very strange game.

“In any group, if something goes wrong, it starts with the head, but we all know that the decision was right, yet recruitment goes wrong, even in our corporate world. However, if they [GFA] are keeping the head coach, they should look for more experienced assistant coaches to support and guide him,” he told Max FM in Twi.

This comes after reports emerged that the GFA plans to dismiss Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann as part of efforts to revamp the technical staff.

When the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume in March 2025, the Black Stars will host Chad and travel to Madagascar.
