Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has called on Ghanaians to manage their expectations following the team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to him, while the team has successfully qualified for the tournament, most players’ individual performances were less impressive than those of previous squads.

EXPLAINER: Why Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Comoros was not televised on local TV

Speaking to the media after Ghana’s 1–0 win over Comoros, Otto Addo advised Ghanaians to measure their expectations, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

“And so I’m very, very happy for everyone. People who are now talking about the World Cup, sorry, but we are nowhere close. The 2010 squad reached the quarterfinals. They had seven or eight players who were regulars in the Champions League at the top level. We’re not there yet. I think we have good players, and they can reach that level, but people need to really think about those days,” he said.

He further added, “We had players at Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus. Do you know what it means to play for these clubs as a regular starter? Olympique Marseille back then, they were like PSG. Playing regularly for such clubs is massive. And if you look at our current players with all due respect, we’re not there yet. So we need to take it game by game and continue to grow.”
