The head coach of the Ghana senior national team, Otto Addo is on the verge of making history as the first coach to qualify Ghana for two separate FIFA World Cup tournaments.

The Black Stars secured a crucial 3 points on September 8, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium against the Eagles of Mali, solidifying Ghana’s position on top of Group I with 19 points.

Otto Addo who successfully guided Ghana to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar through a two legged playoff against the Super Eagles of Nigeria is two games away from qualifying the Black Stars to the global tournament again.

Mathematically, Otto Addo is now at least 3 points away from achieving history with the Black Stars as the first coach to qualify the team to two FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Ghana are currently leading the group with 19 points followed by Madagascar who have accumulated 16 points after 8 games.

The Black Stars could seal qualification for the World Cup on Matchday 9 against the Central African Republic, provided the outcome of Madagascar’s next match with Mali works in their favor.
