In a squad dominated by Europe-based names, two players from the Ghana Premier League have carved out a place for themselves in Otto Addo’s latest Black Stars call-up.

Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare and Medeama SC midfielder, Prince Owusu stand tall as the only home-based representatives, a reminder that the domestic league continues to produce talent capable of competing at the highest level.

For Asare, the call-up is no surprise. Since making his Black Stars debut in the 5–0 victory over Chad in March 2025, the Hearts shot-stopper has quietly established himself as Ghana’s number one.

In just five international appearances, he has already kept three clean sheets, conceding only three goals.

His club form has been equally impressive, topping the clean sheet charts in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League with three shutouts in as many games, having yet to concede a single goal for the Phobians.

While Asare provides calm assurance between the posts, Prince Owusu offers the freshness of possibility in midfield.

At 20 years old, the Medeama player has earned his first senior call-up on the back of tireless league displays.

Owusu featured in 22 matches last season, scoring once and providing two assists, his ball-winning ability and discipline making him one of the most reliable midfielders on the local scene.

This season, he has already shown glimpses of growth, catching the eye of Addo’s technical team.

Together, the duo carry the hopes of home-based talent, one already proven on the international stage, the other stepping into uncharted territory.
