Head coach of the Angola national team, Pedro Goncalves, has thrown his weight behind Black Stars coach Otto Addo despite the predicament the team finds itself in.

He stated that the Black Stars coach is working assiduously to ensure the team performs well to compete for trophies and qualify for tournaments, but things are not working out for him.

The Angola coach asserted that although Ghana is endowed with good footballers who are doing well with their respective clubs, it is unfortunate they fail to replicate the same performance at the national team level, leading to the terrible results the team has recorded.

In an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Goncalves said, “Ghana is a country of football, and I grew up watching the Black Stars with big names. They have wonderful players worldwide, including in Europe and Portugal.

“But unfortunately, they’re not in the best moment now. I appreciate the work Otto Addo is doing for Ghana, even though it’s a challenging time. It’s just an unfortunate situation, but this is football.”

Meanwhile, eight players have withdrawn from the squad for Angola, Niger games. These include Antoine Semenyo, Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams, Osman Ibrahim, Jereme Opoku, Alexander Djiku, and Jonas Adjetey.

This comes as a big blow for the Black Stars as they aim to win against Niger and Angola and hope Sudan loses their remaining matches to secure qualification.

After four matches, Ghana are third in Group F with two points. Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with twelve points.

Ghana will play Angola on November 15, 2024, and return to host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.
