Ghana head coach Otto Addo says the Black Stars have every reason to remain confident after being drawn against England, Croatia and Panama in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking shortly after the draw in Washington, Addo acknowledged the scale of the challenge but insisted the path to the knockout phase is achievable.

“It’s a tough group, it’s doable. There are worse groups, to be honest. I’m happy, especially for our fans on the East Coast of the USA, that they will be able to see us. Also, for this I’m very happy,” he said.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June before meetings with England and Croatia. Addo believes a positive start could shift momentum in Ghana’s favour.

“Especially if we have a good start against Panama, from there we can continue,” he added.

His message reflects a balance of caution and ambition. Ghana are returning to the tournament after a strong qualification campaign, yet the group features two European powerhouses with deep experience in major competitions.

The expanded World Cup format offers more room to advance, with three teams from each group able to reach the new round of 32. Addo says Ghana must embrace the challenge.

The Black Stars travel to North America with a young and hungry squad, and their coach has made the first call: believe and fight from the opening whistle.
