The head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, Otto Addo, has taken responsibility for Ghana’s poor performance, which caused the four-time African champions to miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades.

Following Ghana’s exit, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) scheduled a meeting with Otto Addo and requested that he present a report to the Executive Council on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Reports from the GFA indicate that the head coach submitted a 56-page technical report, which was reviewed by the Executive Council and regional chairpersons of the Football Association, with Addo addressing their concerns during the meeting.

On Friday, November 29, 2024, the GFA issued a statement revealing that Otto Addo, during the meeting, had accepted full responsibility for the team’s poor performance.

“Coach Otto Addo accepts full responsibility for the team’s poor performance and acknowledged some shortcomings,” part of the statement read.

The statement also revealed how the GFA Exco expressed their frustration with Otto Addo over the failure to lead Ghana to the 2025 AFCON.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Regional Football Chairpersons shared the nation’s disappointment with Addo.

They echoed the widespread desire for the Black Stars to deliver better results, particularly in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches,” the statement continued.

Despite these developments, Otto Addo’s future remains uncertain. Although there is a strong possibility of him continuing as Ghana’s head coach, the GFA has decided to consult the government before making a final decision.
