The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has begun investigations into alleged vote buying during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the OSP said it commenced investigations into the NPP presidential primaries conducted on January 31, 2026.

According to the statement, the office also launched a real-time investigation on February 7, 2026, into the NDC parliamentary primaries held in Ayawaso East.

The OSP said the investigations are focusing on allegations of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of funds used in the alleged corrupt activities.

The statement further revealed that during the NDC parliamentary primaries, one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, allegedly abetted some individuals to physically assault an officer of the OSP.

The officer was said to be serving an investigative directive on Baba Jamal in connection with alleged vote buying and vote selling when the incident occurred.

As a result, the OSP has opened an additional investigation into the alleged assault of an authorised officer in the performance of his official duties.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor reminded the public that the law strictly prohibits corrupt practices during public elections, including vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and physical attacks.

The OSP stressed that such acts are serious criminal offences under Ghanaian law.
