Businessman Osei Kwame Despite has indirectly responded to online rumours attempting to link him to an alleged arrest by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) involving a cocaine bust at Kotoka International Airport.
In the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, media reports triggered speculation after news emerged that NACOC had arrested an unnamed individual for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit substances out of the country concealed in packaged food products.
“A manager of a hugely popular Ghanaian packaged food brand has been remanded in custody for allegedly attempting to traffic illicit substances out of Ghana,” the reports indicated.
Chez Amis CEO speaks out on NACOC arrest claims
The statement, attributed to comments from a NACOC official, indicated that the food brand in question was one widely used by Ghanaians.
This led to social media speculation, with users attempting to guess the identity of the individual and the company involved.
As conversations intensified online, some netizens began mentioning names of known business figures associated with food brands, including Chez Amis CEO, Belinda Big Cheezy and Despite Media CEO Osei Kwame Despite.
However, in a video circulating on social media on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Kwame Despite appeared to dismiss the rumours in a lighthearted manner.
While stepping out of his black Rolls Royce Cullinan, dressed in an all-black outfit and believed to be attending a funeral in Kumasi, he exchanged banter with a blogger from Plus 1 TV.
“I’ve been arrested and you didn’t tell me,” Despite jokingly said to the blogger.
Following the public speculation, Alexander Twum-Barimah, Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, clarified the matter in an interview with TV3.
He stated that individuals arrested in connection with the cocaine case are not managers, workers, or in any way linked to the popular food brands whose products were allegedly used to conceal the drugs.
