The 2005 year group of the Fijai Old Students Association (FOSA) has officially cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern sports complex for the Fijai Senior High School.

The ceremony, held on September 20 at the school’s campus in Sekondi, was attended by school authorities, executives of the Global Executive Council (GEC), clergy, alumni, students, and members of the 2005 year group.

The facility will feature courts for basketball, volleyball, handball, tennis, and badminton, making it a multipurpose sporting hub designed to nurture talent and promote fitness among students.

In his remarks, the Project Manager, Young Soul (YS) Irish Appiah Ampofo, explained that the initiative was borne out of the group’s commitment to give back to their alma mater in a way that impacts both academics and extracurricular life.

“This sports complex will serve as a place for sports, friendship, and inspiration for generations to come. We believe sports is an essential part of education, instilling discipline, teamwork, and resilience,” he said.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kenneth Agbomadzi, expressed appreciation to the group for their foresight and dedication, emphasising that the project would not only boost infrastructure but also enhance the school’s competitiveness in inter-school and national sporting events.

The Guest of Honour, Rev. Dr Ken Obeng, Headmaster of G.S.T.S, and the representative of the FOSA National Executive, YS Abraham Kwandaho, commended the group’s vision and pledged the Association’s support for the timely completion of the project.

He encouraged other year groups to embark on projects that leave lasting legacies and called on corporate organisations to support the initiative.

Construction works have commenced immediately, with the first phase expected to be completed by November 2025.
