Professional boxer Mohamed Abou-Chaker from Berlin now has to face a Mexican opponent. It couldn’t be tougher. Just before his biggest fight, the bombshell drops: opponent change! Mohamed Abou-Chaker (23), undefeated in seven fights (5 KOs), was originally scheduled to fight Slovakian Lukas Ferneza. But Ferneza got injured, and the fight was canceled. Now a new opponent has been found: Mexican Zaid Hernández Cortes (5-3-0), experienced, tough, and known for his “dirty” fighting style. Manager Dorothea Ring sums it up: “Mohamed has been preparing for Ferneza the whole time. And now a Mexican… They’re tough to box and known for their hard-hitting style. This makes everything more complicated.” An opponent who throws everything into disarray. A real test for Abou-Chaker.

On the card: Maurice Milcke, from Berlin, son of GBA President Jörg Milcke and reigning Junior World Champion in the light middleweight division. Milcke is considered another sporting highlight. “So many exciting fights in one evening are rare,” say organizers. Despite the chaos and the power of Mexico, even though his game plan has been thrown into disarray, Mohamed Abou-Chaker remains determined: “I want the title, and I’m going to get it. No matter who ends up in the ring.” A victory over Hernández Cortes would be a statement – and the next step towards the top of the world rankings.
