President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has assured that the Black Stars’ technical team will select only the best players for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana will make a return to the global stage next summer.
With head coach Otto Addo yet to unveil his final squad, Okraku has emphasized that the GFA’s Executive Council expects the strongest possible selection.
“Every Ghanaian who is playing well will be given a chance by the technical team. At the end of the day, only 11 players can be selected to play on the pitch, and the final selection has to be only 24 players who can make the squad,” he told Asempa FM.
Okraku also welcomed calls from the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, for transparency and merit in player selection.
“What the Executive Council demands from the technical team is the best, and if the Minister [Kofi Adams] make a demand that we must select the best players and be transparent, it is right because Ghana must field the best players as always.
“We cannot sit down aloof for any player to make the squad, and I welcome the suggestion by the Sports Minister to get the best players for the Black Stars,” he added.
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been schedule for December 5, 2025.
