The One Ghana Movement strongly condemns the recent wave of violence, vandalism, and looting that has erupted in various parts of the country following the December 7, 2024 general elections.

In a statement released on December 10, 2024, the movement described these acts of aggression as threats to the peace, stability, and unity of Ghana.

“The One Ghana Movement unequivocally condemns the ongoing violence, vandalism, and looting reported in several parts of the country, including Damongo, Awutu Senya, Nsawam, Tamale, Techiman South, and Accra, following the presidential election.

“These acts of aggression are a threat to the peace, stability, and unity of our beloved nation.

“We acknowledge the peaceful concession made by the presidential candidate of the NPP in the spirit of democratic consolidation. However, the post-election violence undermines the values of democracy,” parts of the statement read.

The One Ghana Movement also called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to take immediate and decisive action to address the unrest.

“We call on the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to take immediate and decisive action to address this unrest. As the next leader of our nation and a symbol of its unity, we urge him to: 1. Publicly and unequivocally condemn the violence that is being perpetrated in his name. 2. Call on all Ghanaians to desist from any further acts of violence, vandalism, and lawlessness. 3. Assure the public that he will work with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to

ensure that perpetrators of these criminal acts are held accountable according to the law without fear or favour and irrespective of their political affiliation,” the statement continued.

Additionally, the movement called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to direct the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and impartially to restore peace and order in the country.

“We call on H.E. the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to direct the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and impartially to restore order, protect lives and property in the affected communities, and commence arrests and prosecutions of perpetrators,” it continued.

Reaffirming their commitment to promoting peace, unity, and development, the One Ghana Movement encouraged all Ghanaians to focus on building a prosperous nation where democratic principles are respected and upheld.

“As a nation, we have overcome challenges before, and we are confident that together, we can navigate these trying times to emerge even stronger. Let us rise above division and hatred to embrace the spirit of togetherness that defines us as Ghanaians,” the statement ended.
