Olympique de Marseille have officially retired the number 30 jersey worn by legendary goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, honouring his remarkable legacy at the club following his recent retirement from professional football.

The emotional announcement was made on Saturday, October 18, 2025, before Marseille’s home game against Le Havre.

In a touching ceremony, Mandanda received a framed number 30 jersey from the club’s director of football, Mehdi Benatia, as fans and teammates paid tribute to his unforgettable contribution to the club.

“The number 30 will no longer be worn. He will forever remain that of Steve Mandanda, goalkeeper, captain and Olympian legend,” OM said in an official statement.

“This decision testifies to the deep imprint that Steve Mandanda has left on his teammates, the club and its supporters, and the unbreakable link that now forever unites his name to that of Olympique de Marseille,” the statement added.

Born in Kinshasa, Mandanda began his career at Le Havre before joining Marseille in 2007, where he quickly became a fan favourite.

Over 14 seasons, he made 613 appearances, a club record, and helped Marseille to numerous titles, including the Ligue 1 championship in 2010, three consecutive League Cups (2010, 2011, 2012), and two Trophées des Champions under Didier Deschamps.

A 2018 World Cup winner with France, Mandanda announced his retirement last month at the age of 40, bringing an illustrious career to an end.
