American skiing legend and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn made a triumphant appearance on the first day of the US Open by sauntering in with only a whisper of bandaging on her surgically repaired left leg.

Months after undergoing eight surgeries to repair the extensive damage she suffered in a gruesome crash at the Milan-Cortina Games, Vonn arrived in Flushing, Queens wearing a skin-tight sleeveless olive-green dress. The gown featured a small slip on her left-hand side, which exposed some negligible medical tape along her left calf and knee.

The two-time world champion has not ruled out another return to skiing.

Vonn has been a regular at the US Open with now-former boyfriends Diego Osorio and hockey star PK Subban.

On Sunday, she was in Queens to catch No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic square off with Argentina’s Mariano Navone.

She is also friends with Poland’s Iga Świątek, who faces China’s Wang Xiyu on Monday.

‘I met Iga a few years ago and we hit it off right away,’ Vonn told Polish sports publication Przegląd Sportowy Onet. ‘She told me that she really liked my book, and even before we met in person, we were already friends online.

‘She is an incredibly warm person and over all these years, it has truly been a huge pleasure to get to know her better and better. I hope that this year I will be able to see her during the US Open. I will always cheer for her.’

Vonn appears to be making great progress in her rehabilitation, despite admitting last month that her ankle is ‘still broken’ following her horrific crash in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Weeks later, she has shared a series of photos on Instagram from her summer vacation, which appears to be in the French town of Villefranche-sur-Mer.

In one of the photos a beaming Vonn is seen showing off her shredded physique on a paddleboard, while another captures her in a helmet and lifejacket on the beach while seemingly preparing to take part in another watersport.

She wrote as the caption: ‘Been on the move…’

Vonn was forced to undergo eight surgeries after her crash in the women’s downhill race on February 8 at the Olympics.

The 41-year-old was already competing in the race on a torn left ACL, which she injured in another crash heading into the Milan-Cortina Games. Yet when she took to the slopes in a bid to land her fourth Olympic medal, Vonn completely shattered her left leg and almost required amputation as a result.

‘It’s been a very slow process,’ she told People.com on the red carpet at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles last month. ‘It’s been five months since I’ve been able to actually go to the gym in a somewhat meaningful way. And walking is actually still really hard for me.’

Amid her ongoing rehab, Vonn has been romantically linked to a fellow alpine ski star in recent months.

A bombshell report from People in May claimed she has been getting close to French racer Matthieu Bailet, with the pair initially spending time together in New York City.

The pair were photographed backstage after a performance of the Broadway musical ‘The Outsiders’, before they were also spotted shopping in SoHo and riding on the subway together the same week Vonn was seen at the Met Gala.
