An old tweet by sports journalist Saddick Adams, revealing Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah’s past willingness to play for the Black Stars, has resurfaced online.

The tweet, shared on X on January 9, 2019, stated that Nketiah declined an invitation to play for the Black Stars during the tenure of coach James Kwasi Appiah, despite being approached by team officials.

However, Adams also revealed that Nketiah’s family was infuriated by the fact that the player had expressed interest in joining Ghana’s U-17 national team in 2016 but was denied the opportunity.

As a result, the player’s decision to represent England instead of Ghana may have been influenced by how he was treated at a young age, despite his early commitment to play for Ghana.

“Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah says he won’t play for Ghana but England. He made the decision known to Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah after he was contacted. The player’s family is livid with the Ghana FA for rejecting him when he wanted to play for Ghana U-17 some 3 years ago,” Adams tweeted in 2019.

Following recent reports that Nketiah is now open to playing for the Black Stars, the old tweet has resurfaced on social media, sparking mixed reactions.

Despite the divided opinions, the final decision rests with head coach Otto Addo and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding Nketiah’s future with the national team.
