The Minister of Foreign Affairs and North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has outrightly denied accusations that he owns a residence at Airport Hills which he allegedly registered under his sister’s name.

During a TV3 interview on February 8, 2025, he urged his critics to substantiate their claims with evidence.

Ablakwa, who emphasised his compliance with the Assets Declaration Act, provided proof that the property in question is actually owned by a Jordanian named Husni Altheebeh.

“…Husni Altheebeh, our landlord is a Jordanian,” he clarified, presenting a copy of his tenancy agreement from the estate managers of Airport Hills.

“I challenge them to put out that evidence that shows that the East Legon Hills residence belongs to me and that I’ve put it in my sister’s name. That’s absolutely untrue. That property doesn’t belong to me,” he retorted.

Sworn into office on February 7, Ablakwa also explained that MPs receive rent allowances as part of their service terms which puts him in a position to afford rent for the residence.

“What they failed to tell the Ghanaian people is that MPs receive rent allowance,” he pointed out.

He clarified that his residence at Airport Hills is legally covered by his rent allowance, a common practice for MPs without official government accommodations.

Ablakwa criticized the spread of misinformation aimed at tarnishing his reputation, emphasizing the need for factual discourse in politics.

“It is important that we focus on facts and not allow misinformation to mislead the public,” he stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, he encouraged the public to seek the truth and resist being misled by baseless accusations.

“I have always upheld transparency, and I will continue to serve with honesty and dedication,” he concluded.

So how much do MPs earn and rent allowance can cater for such apartment for 8 years and counting. Eiii Tie… pic.twitter.com/MZVgEyUoi5
