The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region has secured a fourth-term bid with an unprecedented margin.

Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi defeated his only contender, Simon Kweku Tetteh, who also serves as the current Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

In Saturday’s parliamentary elections, Terlabi secured 29,048 votes, representing 64.1% of the total, compared to the NPP PC’s 15,653 votes, which represents 34.5%.

The announcement was made by Jonathan Okine, Lower Manya Krobo District Electoral Officer at the Municipal Assembly, which served as the district collation center. The news sparked spontaneous celebrations among Terlabi’s supporters, who had massed up at the premises all night awaiting the final declaration.

Terlabi narrowly won his second term bid in 2016 by a margin of 327 votes but in 2020, he increased the margin, polling 26,991 votes, which represented 54.27% against his opponent’s 22,029 votes, representing 44.29%.

In the presidential elections, the NDC flagbearer, President John Mahama, also achieved a resounding victory over Dr Muhammadu Bawumia with 33,244 votes, representing 73.4% compared to the latter’s 10,451 votes which is 23% of the valid votes cast.

This victory marks a significant increase from 2020 when Mahama won 29,940 votes, representing 60.78% of the votes.

Despite the NPP’s hopes of turning the tides in their favour this year, they failed to achieve this target, losing all previous presidential and parliamentary elections to the NDC.
