Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has declared his intention to contest the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during his “For the Records” show on February 21, 2026, the outspoken broadcaster pledged his commitment to the constituency, describing his vision as a “rebuilding agenda.”

He mentioned the names of constituency and electoral area executives he plans to work with, expressing confidence in capturing the seat during the 2028 general elections should he win the NPP primaries.

“The General Secretary has brought the election timetable for the party’s internal elections, and I have an interest in contesting the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency parliamentary seat. We want the party to look attractive, so whatever happens, we will follow keenly and ensure the party becomes attractive again,” he stated.

He previously sparked speculation among viewers when he appeared on his show on December 22, 2025, wearing a black shirt with the inscription “Sekyere Ni Ba” meaning “the son of Sekyere,” a direct reference to his constituency.

Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Today, I stand here as a Bomfa Asante Akyem resident, nurtured by my grandmother in Suame, though originally from Asante Agona.

“The young child shaped by KNUST Primary and moulded by Mfantsipim is the same child whose life has opened doors I never imagined. I studied Public Relations at GIMPA, earned a master’s in diplomacy and international Relations at the same institution, and my desire to understand the law brought me to the US, where I am now pursuing a master’s in law.”

He emphasised that if his constituency does not benefit from his efforts, then all his education and achievements would be meaningless.

Meanwhile, the NPP has rolled out a comprehensive timetable and guidelines for its upcoming internal elections, following the successful presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026.

NPP announces roadmap for internal elections

According to a document shared on February 18, 2026, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, detailed the roadmap that will guide membership registration and the step-by-step conduct of elections from the polling station level through to the constituency level.

He indicated that the process at the constituency level will officially begin on April 20, 2026.

Providing a breakdown of the initial phase, he explained that the registration of members will take place throughout March 2026, while data entry for newly registered members will run from April 1 to April 10, 2026.

This will be followed by a verification exercise scheduled between April 14 and April 16, 2026.

“The process of registration of members will start from March 1 to 31, 2026. The data entry of members who have been registered will be between April 1 and April 10, 2026. After the data entry, there will be verification of its members from April 14 to 16, 2026,” he stated.

According to the document, internal elections will first be conducted at the polling station level. Nominations for aspirants will open on April 20 and close on April 24, 2026.

Vetting of candidates is set for April 25 to April 30, 2026, with an appeals window from May 1 to May 4, 2026.

“The notice of poll will be from May 6 to May 9, 2026. The elections of the polling station executives will be from May 10 to 16, 2026,” he added.

Justin Frimpong Kodua further noted that prior to the polling station elections, data entry and validation of the polling station executives’ album will be carried out from April 17 to April 21, 2026.

After completing the polling station phase, the party will move to elect electoral area executives. Nominations will be received from May 23 to May 25, 2026, followed by vetting between May 26 and May 31, 2026.

Appeals will be considered from June 1 to June 4, 2026, while notices of poll will be issued from June 5 to June 8, 2026.

Elections at the electoral area level are scheduled for June 10 to June 15, 2026, with data entry and validation of results taking place from June 16 to June 20.

“In all these activities, the responsible office will be the constituency executive committee and the regional steering committee, with oversight responsibility by the national secretariat,” he explained.

The final stage will focus on constituency executive elections. Nominations will open and close from June 22 to June 24, 2026, with vetting slated for June 25 to June 27, 2026. Appeals will be accepted from June 28 to June 30.

Notices of poll will be issued between July 2 and July 5, 2026, and the elections of constituency officers will be held from July 11 to July 12, 2026.

The process will conclude with data entry of the constituency album from July 13 to July 26, 2026.
